David Ailing Sweeny ’70

Body

DAVID ALLING SWEENY died Nov. 27, 1992, after valiantly battling brain cancer for well over a year.

Dave entered Princeton from Scotch PlainsFanwood H.S., in central New Jersey, following his father, Hugh Jr. '35, and brother Hugh 111'66 to Old Nassau. An economics major, Dave was a member of Army ROTC and Wilson College and was a weight man on the track team.

After graduation from American Univ. Law School, he and his wife, Andrea, took a camping tout of the U.S. before entering practice in New Haven. Dave and Andrea returned to this hobby nearly full time for the three years before he fell ill, going as far as the Alaska pipeline, but spending most of their time backpacking in the Rockies, their first love.

Such was his love of Princeton and devotion to our Class that despite his illness he attended our last two reunions with his lovely wife. He was proud to match with the Class, once as the head of the 70pede, and scheduled his June chemotherapy treatment so he could join us one final time.

To his widow, Andrea; his parents, Hugh Jr. and Jeanne; and his brother Hugh 111; the Class extends its deepest sympathies.
