Frances Edwards L. Whitfield ’75

Body

AFTER A LONG ILLNESS, Frances Edwards Whitfield died in Trenton, N.J., July 24, 1992.

Born in Trenton, Frances graduated from Trenton Central High School and entered Princeton with the Class of 1974. She joined our Class after a year's leave and remained a loyal member of 1975. After receiving her A.B. in philosophy, Frances went on to the Univ. of Illinois, earning an M.A. and completing all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation.

Her career was in higher education. She held several positions at Mercer County Community College, and then was employed as a program officer at the New Jersey Department of Higher Education. She served on the University's Alumni Schools Committee and also on the steering committee of the Public School Dropout Prevention Planning Collaborative. She was a lifelong member of Galilee Baptist Church in Trenton and was active in the Trenton alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority,

Those who knew Frances will remember her both for her quiet dignity and for that marvelous laugh that would bubble up when you least expected it. We will miss her.

She is survived by her widower, Maurice Whitfield; by her daughter, Cassandra R. Edwards; by her stepson, Maurice RueWhitfield; and by her sister Gloria A. Hill.
