Kirk died Aug. 28, 2018, from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was a native of New Jersey, and his father was in the Class of 1930.

He prepared at Pingry and Lawrenceville. At Princeton he majored in psychology and was vice chairman of the Undergraduate Schools Committee. He was an officer in Army ROTC and a member of the Right Wing Club. He ate at Cottage Club.

Kirk married Frances Grauer four days after graduation, and the newlyweds spent their honeymoon driving from New Jersey to Fort Sill, Okla., where 2nd Lt. Kirkpatrick served on active duty until the following January. After a brief period with the Bank of New York, Kirk accepted an offer from International Flavors & Fragrances, where he rose from regional sales manager, to North American sales manager, to president of IFF’s worldwide fragrance division.

While at IFF he served on the Alumni Schools Committee, worked with Annual Giving, and enjoyed summers with his family on the Jersey shore until his retirement in 1996. After Hugh lived in New Jersey for the first 60 years of his life, in retirement he and Francie relocated to Vero Beach, Fla., and Boone, N.C.

Kirk’s life was defined by his commitment to family. He is survived by his wife, Francie; his daughter, Laura; and his son, Hugh III. We have sent condolences.
