James Noren, who retired from the Central Intelligence Agency after a long career there, died July 28, 2015. He was 86.

Noren graduated from Hamline University in 1951, and in 1953 and 1960 earned an master’s degree and Ph.D. in economics, respectively, from Princeton. After serving in the Army, he had a distinguished 32-year career with the CIA as an economic analyst, specializing in the Soviet Union.

During his retirement, he worked as a consultant and published a book. He was a founding member of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Burke, Va.

Noren is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice Mary; two daughters; and two grandchildren.

Graduate memorials are prepared by the APGA.
