James McGregor Canavan Jr. ’59

Body

GREG CANAVAN died Dec. 11, 1989, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis after a brief illness. At the time he was executive V.P. of Smith, Moore & Co., an investment securities firm, which he had joined in 1964. After graduating from Princeton, Greg went into the Navy for three years, then attended Harvard Business School before joining Smith, Moore. In addition to his business activities, he was former president of the St. Louis Mercantile Library Assn., Consolidated Neighborhood Services, Inc., and the St. Louis Neighborhood Assn. He also was a vestryman and treasurer of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. In 1975 Greg, who majored in German language and literature at Princeton, met another "German-speaking Episcopalian" as he put it in our 25th-reunion yearbook, and wed Sara Louise Dallmeyer. To her, their two daughters, Carolyn and Elizabeth, his parents James and Minerva, and two sisters, the Class extends its condolences.
