James Randolph Simpson ’41

RANDY SIMPSON DIED of a heart attack on Nov. 9, 1993, in Washington, D,C. He retired as a scientific officer with the Office of Naval Research (O.N.R.).

Brought up in Windber, Penn., Randy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the Woodrow Wilson School. After economics study at the Univ. of Chicago, he joined the navy, serving as a supply officer. He continued graduate studies at Harvard after the war. He was with the navy's bureau of supplies from 195262 as manager of logistics research, then with the O.N.R. in operations research and mathematic suntil 1987, Spare time activities included New Jersey's Brant Beach Yacht Club and the Boy Scouts.

He and Peggy maintained their primary residence in La Jolla, Calif. They had been married 45 years. Both Randy and his cousin Jim '37 were named for their grandfather. An uncle, Charles, was Class of '04, and Randy's brother Dick is with us in '41. Another cousin, Dr. George Berkheimer, was Class of '34. Randy's survivors include Peggy, a son, a daughter, their spouses, and two grandsons. We extend our sincere sympathy to them.
