Jeffrey L. Piech ’65

Body

ON SEPT. 19, 1991, Jeff Piech was stricken by a sudden and lethal heart attack at his home in Wilmington.

Jeff came to Princeton from Aiken, S.C. He majored in mathematics and then received a Ph.D. in statistics from Duke. There he met and married another graduate student his widow, Barbara. After earning his Ph.D., Jeff worked for DuPont, and at his death he was DuPont's manager of corporate marketing research.

All his life Jeff liked to wanderhe made a point of recording all the U.S. counties he had ever been in, and at his death had been in about 1600 counties out of 3000 or so. Love of his family, however, was always central to Jeff, as was his love of mathematics and the cohesiveness and order it brings from both real and apparent chaos. Jeff was always precise in his dealings. We have lost a devoted friend, a good teacher, a fond husband, and a dedicated parent.

To his widow, Barbara; his sons David and Bill; his mother, Harriet; and to his sisters, Sandy and Janet; the Class extends its deepest sympathy.
