John died suddenly in his sleep July 22, 2017. He was a natural leader, confident mentor, gifted teammate, and faithful steward of his time, talent, and treasure.

Born in Topeka, Kan., at Princeton Clev majored in English, was a proud member of Cottage Club, and was on the varsity football team that won the 1989 Ivy League Championship. During his years at Princeton, he roomed with Bruce Campbell, Brett Paschke, Mike Salerno, Jeff Hyde, and Keith Player.

After a consulting and banking career, Clev graduated from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, where he gained lifelong friends playing rugby. Moving to Wichita, he led Commerce Bank Kansas. Clev’s involvement in the community and his church was remarkable. His broad impact was felt at the services to celebrate his life: Large contingents were present from all parts of life — childhood and high school friends, Princeton classmates and teammates, Kellogg graduates, professional colleagues, and the local community.

Clev’s devotion to his wife, Kristen; and their children, Mary Margaret, Thomas, and Katherine; was his proudest achievement. He is survived by them as well as by his parents, Thomas and Linda Clevenger; and his brother, Chris, and sister-in-law Amy, and their children.
