John P. Kennedy ’65

Jack died May 31, 2015, after a three-month bout with renal-cell carcinoma that had metastasized to his liver and spine.

He was born June 13, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 16, he spent six months in Italy outside of Milan as an exchange student. While at Princeton he majored in English and was a member of Campus Club. Upon graduating from Princeton, he attended the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and earned a master’s degree in public administration.

Jack’s choice of overseas assignments was with the Ford Foundation in New Delhi, India. He never looked back. He and his family spent four years in India and four years in Malaysia, where his son, Jay ’94, was born, and then 10 years in the Philippines with the Asian Development Bank, where his daughter, Hilary, was born. Jack spent 29 years working at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., on international human resources.

In his retirement, he consulted with the African Development Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the Asian Development Bank on all kinds of issues related to human resources.

Jack is survived by Sue, his wife of 47 years; Jay and his wife, Ellen; daughter Hilary; and two grandchildren.
