Laurie Cathles died of cancer May 18, 1995, at his home in West Simsbury, Conn. He was born in Dallas in 1913 and prepared at St. Paul’s. He majored in classics, belonged to Tiger Inn, roomed with Russ Tutt, and was a leader of the hockey team.

He married Betsy Williams in 1941 and the couple enjoyed 54 happy years of matrimony. Their children are son Lawrence III ’65 and daughter Frances Glahn. He also leaves four grandchildren.

Laurie served in the Navy during the war and reached the rank of lt. commander. The LST he commanded participated in several D-day landings in the Philippines. His entire business career was spent with Aetna Life and Casualty, from which he retired in 1975 as Sr. V.P. in charge of the group division. He served on numerous trade association committees, was a director for many years of the Institute of Living, and followed numerous other institutional, civic, and recreational activities. The class extends its sincere sympathy to Betsy and the family.
