Richard Harris ’53

Body

THE CLASS was saddened to learn recently that Richard Harris died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Needham, Mass., May 19, 1990, at the age of 58. Dick came to Princeton from Lynn Classical High School in Massachusetts. While at Princeton, he majored in biology and was a member of Campus Club. Dick participated in I.A.A. basketball, softball, and hockey and enjoyed playing pool and bridge, His studies were interrupted by the Korean conflict, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Dick later returned to Princeton and graduated with the Class of 1956. Dick married Marilyn Ring after graduation and began to prepare himself for a career as a research chemist. He attained an M.A. in genetics at Boston College and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Boston Univ. School of Medicine in 1966. Dick loved research and worked for DuPont. Prior to his death, he had just returned from Switzerland, where he was working on a research project for DuPont, developing test kits for AIDS. Dick and Marilyn were a devoted couple and together raised two accomplished daughters, Leslie and Linda. They enjoyed a warm and loving family life. Dick will be missed by those who knew his warm friendliness. The Class extends deepest sympathies to Marilyn, Leslie, and Linda.
