Victor S. Gettner ’27

Body

Victor S. Gettner died Mar. 16, 1995, at St. Luke's Hospital in N.Y.C., of Lou Gehrig's disease and coronary complications.

Vic came to Princeton from Townsend Harris Hall. He majored in political science and was a member of the Law Club, Polity Club, and Whig Hall. He attended Harvard Law School and practiced law with his father's New York firm, Gettner, Simon, and Asher, and later by himself in White Plains. He was a lifelong worker for civil liberties and chaired the board of the New York Civil Liberties Union 1960-67. He was a member of the executive committee of the College Careers Fund of West Chester, N.Y. He retired in 1990.

Vic married Henriette Herrmann of N.Y.C. in 1935. She survives him along with their son Alan. Henriette has enjoyed a distinguished career as a research chemist. For three years, I roomed next door to “little Vic," as I called him, in Henry Hall. To his wife and son, our class extends its sympathy.
