William — who left Princeton to serve in the Navy Cadet Air Program in Pensacola, Fla. — was born May 10, 1933, the only child of Arthur C. and Alice Y. Leppert. He died Oct. 1, 2018, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Ill., at age 85.

William later graduated from Princeton and earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He was an educator who taught at St. Dominic College in St. Charles and then at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn for nearly 40 years, where he was instrumental in creating the Alpha College, an independent-learning and study-abroad program.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith; children Melissa, Hollis, Robin, and Nicholas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
