On Becoming a Psychotherapist: The Personal and Professional Journey

(Oxford University Press) This book explores how psychotherapists develop as practitioners through both professional training and the training that can only be obtained through personal experience. Each chapter examines a particular set of personal experiences or educational pursuits that impacts psychotherapist development and practice. Bernard is a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine and maintains a private practice in Manhattan and Westport, Conn.
