A deep dive into Victorian and Irish studies, Fox argues for the reimagination of 19th century literature in The Necromantics (Ohio State Press). Exploring the literary afterlives of Mary Shelley, Robert Browning, Charles Dickens, W.B. Yeats, Bram Stoker, and other authors of gothic-style literature from this time, Fox unpacks the correlation between the monsters and corpses in these author’s works as symbols of the present’s attempt to reshape the past. Her goal is to challenge common beliefs that write off this genre, and to propose a more serious interpretation of the impact of these works.
