Worlds of Byzantium
Containing essays from several scholars in the field, Worlds of Byzantium (Cambridge University Press) broadens the study of the Byzantine empire, which has largely been studied in isolation. Experts challenge that approach by examining populations outside of the empire’s border. Studying various religious populations throughout the Middle Ages adds to readers’ understanding of the Byzantine empire. Additionally, viewing the empire as the result of various interconnected elements spanning neighboring regions adds to conversations about the development of language and culture.
