Our beloved fellow Tiger Eddie died Jan. 5, 2018.

Eddie majored in molecular biology with a certificate from the Program in Latin American Studies. Eddie’s studies at Princeton were marked by a passion for science, combined with frequent incursions into humanities. As a friend, Eddie was loyal, thoughtful, and a positive force. It was a joy to be in his company, as his friends Jose Rodriguez-Escudero ’94 and Francisco “Pancho” Fuentes ’94 can attest.

After medical school, Eddie completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Washington (UW). Rising to professor at UW, Eddie became co-director of the head and neck oncology program and director of the Advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program. Colleagues described Eddie as brilliant, unpretentious, compassionate, optimistic, and visionary.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Anne; and children Emma and Julia. Siempre estarás en nuestra memoria, amadísimo amigo. Siempre.

Eddie took the fight to cancer, both professionally and personally. And on both battlegrounds he fought passionately, brimming with hope. An endowment has been established in Eddie’s name to help continue his legacy in head and neck cancer. Donations can be made online at http://supportuwmedicine.org/mendez.
