Henderson Supplee Jr., affectionately known as "Wooz," died Feb. 3, 1992, at age 88, in Bryn Mawr Hospital, following surgery several weeks before. We have lost a leader in business and community affairs and one who was outstanding in his service to Princeton and the Class of 1926. He was a charter trustee of the University from 1949 until 1973, and during most of that time he was chairman of the trustees committee on grounds and buildings, at a time when Princeton was undergoing a period of expansion. He received the Class of 1926 Achievement Award in 1963 and with characteristic modesty declined the post of Class president in favor of acting as executive V.P.

After graduation Wooz worked for SuppleeWills Jones Milk Co., at first driving a horsedrawn milk wagon in the early morning. He became president in 1938 but resigned in 1947 to become V.P. of Atlantic Refining Co. As he said at the time, he stayed in the business of liquids, from milk to oil. Becoming president in 1952, he was responsible for restructuring and revitalizing Arco, He became board chairman in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1965. He continued on the board and in 1966 played an important part in merging Arco into Atlantic Richfield Co. Wooz gave his many directorial talents to outstanding activities, including Episcopal Academy, the Federal Reserve Board of Philadelphia, Camp Tecumseh, and the Philadelphia 1976 Bicentennial Corp. But his real love was Princeton, and he never failed to respond to any call, however small, from Princeton or the Class of'26.

Wooz and Mary Osborne Baker were married in June 1928 and together enjoyed travel and fishing, in many parts of the U.S., Canada, and abroad, and rearing a family. Mary's steadfast care of Wooz: during his last illness was especially inspiring. Wooz is survived by Mary; their four children, Henderson 111 '51, Andrew '61, Anne Carroll, and Betty di Valmarana; six grandchildren; and a greatgrandson; to all of whom we extend our profound sympathy, mourning as we do a fine friend and devoted classmate.
