I am happy to hear that our class of 1983 friend John Oakes continues to encourage and publish great writers and important works. His bylines at The Daily Princetonian always promised articles that showed intellectual honesty, and I am glad that members of our generation still recognize the importance of essays, articles and literary works that don’t get summarized into bullet points or 140 characters. As a former English major who still enjoys bookstores and libraries, I thank editors and publishers like John and his colleagues for continuing to embrace journalism and literature in a time when facts, logic, and thoughtful opinions are being dismissed or devalued. Good luck to John and his colleagues as they relaunch this respected publishing firm.
