You guys are better than ever. This is so good that it makes me worry virtual a cappella will replace the arch sing. Surely not!
More than half a century ago, many of the Footnotes were good friends of mine, and the group sang a wonderful arrangement (probably done by Mike Greenstein ’65) of Gone with the Wind. Not the theme song from the movie but one published in 1937 by Allie Wrubel with lyrics by Herb Magidson and popularized by Ella Fitzgerald and others. The group knew it was my favorite of their repertoire, because I requested it at every opportunity. By the time I was a senior, I no longer had to request it. If I approached the arch where the Footnotes were singing, you could bet the next song would be Gone with the Wind. If you no longer sing it, for goodness sake, dig it out of your archives; you’ll love it. And if you do, next time I see you in an arch, I’ll expect it. Who knows — maybe you’ll do it in a virtual a cappella.
