I just wanted to thank the editor for the opening of her column in the February issue. Those of us who have just retired have a list of those who made a difference earlier in our lives which we had not acknowledged recently. The remarks about not going to Carnegie Hall applied to many of us, I’m sure, but we remain grateful to piano teachers and others. For many of them the thanks come too late, but even letting their families know about our indebtedness isn’t a waste of time. My piano is not a grand instrument, but when I sit down at it, I like to think that I am expressing my thanks, however mangled the renditions.
