William Browder *58, a longtime mathematics professor and leader in the fields of topology and geometry, died Feb. 4. He was 91. Browder received his Ph.D. at age 24, completing his thesis under the direction of fellow topologist John C. Moore. He taught at Rochester and Cornell before returning to Princeton, where he spent 48 years on the faculty, transferring to emeritus status in 2012. Browder held several leadership positions in the math department, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1980, and served as president of the American Mathematical Society from 1989 to 1990.
