Thanks for This Important Info for Alumni Readers

One of my college roommates, also a physician, sent me this article as soon as he received it in the mail, as I had just contacted him regarding what I could do about my elevated Lp(a). I had a heart attack 59, two days after my 39th reunion in 2018. I was surprised to say the least, as I considered myself in very good overall health and none of my previous lab numbers had been worrisome. Since then I’ve done everything as the doctor ordered: I take my cholesterol lowering medication, antihypertensive, and anti-coagulant, and exercise daily, and have driven my LDL to 60. Last year I read about Lp(a) and asked my PCP to run the test ... and it was very elevated! My cardiologist just looked at it and shrugged, saying there’s not anything that can be done. Just recently, he added a second cholesterol lowering medication to get my LDL to “ultra-low” levels, as Dr. Leahy ’69 suggested. I hope that the new medications targeting Lp(a) get through the pipeline and to the public very soon. Thank you to Susan Reslewic Keatley '99 and to the other Princeton alums quoted in this article for sharing this important information with us.
