Angus Eugene Peyton ’48

At Princeton, Gus was an economics major and president of Cottage Club. He played varsity basketball, was active in track, and was a member of the Undergraduate Council. He graduated in June 1949 after a stint in the Merchant Marine.

After Princeton and the University of Virginia School of Law, Gus returned to West Virginia to practice law in his native Charleston. In addition to his many business interests, his involvement with local, state, and national affairs was mind-boggling. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., described him as “a dear friend.” Gus gave several important commissioned sculptures to help beautify Charleston.

He is survived by his widow, Nina; son Angus; daughters Morgan and Lisa; and many relatives. Gus is sorely missed; it is not often such a gifted friend is part of our lives.
