(Princeton University Press) Like his compositions, Babbitt’s writings about music have greatly influenced postwar music and thinking about music. In essays and public addresses spanning 50 years, Babbitt grapples with central questions in music. These writings range from personal memoirs and critical reviews to metatheoretical speculations and technical exegesis. Babbitt was William Shubael Conant Professor of Music at Princeton University.
