(Skirl Records) This album features Ben Holmes ’01 and his band, the Ben Holmes Quartet, with trumpet, trombone, drums, and bass. Lucid Culture called the quartet “one of those great bands that defies categorization. Rhythmically, they are most definitely a jazz group; melodically, they encompass everything from Balkan music, to klezmer, to a cinematic sensibility, with plenty of improvisation and elements of both the high Romantic and the avant garde.” Holmes is a trumpet player and composer, and he currently has four ongoing projects, including the Ben Holmes Quartet.
