Frederick William Fitz ’59

Body

WE LEARNED ONLY RECENTLY of the untimely death of Fred Fitz, from a heart attack, on Mar. 27, 1990.

Fred came to Princeton from the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. A chemistry major, he transferred to Northwestern Univ. in 1956, where he was named to the dean's list several times, earning his bachelor's degree in 1959. Fred received his medical degree from Northwestern Medical School in 1963.

Completing surgical internships at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and Carville Leprosonium in Carville, La., Fred went on to serve with distinction as commanding officer of the U.S. Army Medical Corps detachment in Kaiserslautern, Germany, from 1965 to 1967. In 1971, following completion of a residency in dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Fred established a private practice in Eau Claire, Wis., where he was associated with Luther Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital. He was a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Fred is survived by his widow, Mary McAfee Fitz; a daughter, Alison Elizabeth; his mother, Grace Barr Fitz; and a brother, Richard Barr Fitz. The Class extends its deepest sympathies to them all.
