He prepared at Browne Nichols School and then Gilman. At Princeton, he majored in chemistry and graduated with honors.

He was on the freshman crew, earned his major “P” at crew junior year, and won the gold medal in the Coaches Cup competition for sculling, senior year. He was a Princeton Summer Camp counselor in 1940 and a member of Cloister Inn.

Lloyd stayed at Princeton after graduating and earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 1944. Unable to go into military service, he went to work for Rohm & Haas in Philadelphia. Late in 1944, he joined Hynson, Westcott & Dunning in Baltimore, where he worked as a research chemist on pharmaceuticals until retiring after 33 years.

He served many years as the supervisor of trails for the Mountain Club of Maryland (part of the Appalachian Conference). After retirement he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Baltimore.

Lloyd is survived by his three daughters, Caroline Rastelli, Barbara Felton, and Margaret Romanix; three sons, Lloyd Jr., John, and Mark; and 10 grandchildren.
