Robert J. Daiute ’51

Bob was born Dec. 27, 1926, the son of Carroll F. and Dorothy Park Daiute, in Braintree, Mass.

He attended Braintree High School and Thayer Academy and served during World War II in the Navy from 1944 to 1946, having enlisted at 17. At Princeton he majored in economics, was a member of the Catholic Club and Prospect Club, and roomed with David Rockefeller ’45. Bob and Eleanor Mae Stevens were married June 6, 1954.

After he earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, he taught management and economics at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., Alfred (N.Y.) University, and Rider College in Lawrenceville, N.J. In addition he was a consultant to various government agencies on highway and land-use planning. Included in his academic publications were Scientific Management and Human Relations and Economic Highway Planning. He also published articles on management subjects and land economics.

A resident of Lawrenceville, N.J., for 46 years, Bob died May 8, 2010. He is survived by Eleanor; their daughter, E. Maria Daiute; and grandchildren Mariel and Max Breithaupt. Their son, Robert J. Jr. ’79, died in 2008 in San Francisco.
