B. Frank Poe Jr. ’43

Frank, a copywriter with the New York advertising agency of Needham & Grohman for many years before his retirement in 1972, died Sept. 7, 2009, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J. He was 88.

Frank was born in Annapolis, Md., and lived most of his life in New York City and in Summit before moving to Chatham Township, N.J., in 2008. He prepped at St. James School, where he was active in debating, golf, and dramatics. At Princeton he was in the Refreshment Agency, the Skating Club, and Terrace Club. He majored in SPIA and graduated with honors.  

After graduation he entered the State Department, serving during World War II in the economic warfare section. He later was a Foreign Service officer posted to Havana, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Rome. Subsequently he became a securities analyst at Fiduciary Trust in New York City but switched careers again to work in advertising.

Frank never married. His survivors include a sister, Marguerite E. Sutherland-Brown, and several nephews.
