Carroll A. Hochwalt Jr. ’45

Ted Hochwalt died Nov. 4, 2008. 

He entered Princeton from Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio, and received his Princeton degree in chemical engineering in 1944. He spent the war years working on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, N.M., after which he earned a graduate degree in organic chemistry at Ohio State and joined DuPont Co. While at Princeton, Ted was a member  of Dial Lodge. Ted left DuPont for CPC International, eventually becoming its director of chemical development. He retired from Cogas Co. of Princeton to become a self-employed consultant to the chemical and energy industry. 

In 1948, Ted married Rita Dineen from his hometown of Dayton. Rita survives Ted as do their five children, Deberah Ann Knowles, Pauline Dineen Wolfe, Carolyn Rose, Carroll III, and Anne Elizabeth; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The class expresses its sympathy to Ted’s family.
