Chester S. Logan ’51

Chet graduated from Chattanooga High School in Tennessee and was drafted into the Army on V-E Day (Victory in Europe). He served a year in Italy helping rebuild the phone system after the war and then came to Princeton, earning an AB in classics. He was a member of the Republican Club, the United World Federalists, and Court Club. He roomed with J.F. Gardiner and J.H. Peters.

He had a successful career in the New York publishing industry, retiring as vice president of human resources for Harper and Row (predecessor to HarperCollins) in 1985. After “retiring,” Chet consulted for several years and then became involved in numerous charitable boards, including Teatown Lake Reservation and Constitution Island Association, as well as remaining heavily involved in his church.

Chet died Feb. 19, 2026, one month shy of his 99th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife and kindergarten sweetheart, Auralie. Chet is survived by his three sons and their wives, James and Jean, Walter and Mary, and Andrew and Pam; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Bobby.
