James D. McCabe ’27
James D. “Whitey” McCabe died Jan. 6, 1995, in Sarasota, Fla. Whitey prepared at Princeton Prep School. At Princeton, he was a member of the freshman and varsity soccer and basketball teams, the freshman baseball team, and Cannon Club.
For eight years after graduation, he lived in Princeton (except for a period of graduate study at the Univ. of Chicago, where he got his master's degree). He then became chairman of the Latin dept. at Princeton Prep School and also coached basketball and other sports there. In 1936, he joined the faculty of Choate as a teacher and athletic coach and remained there until 1969, when he retired and moved to Sarasota.
In 1937, he married Ruthe George, who survives him, as do a son, James D. Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Warner; a sister, Edna McCabe; and two grandchildren. To them, the class extends its sympathy.
