John Bruce Hagan ’63

We lost Bruce on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, after a brief illness. He was an active community member whose life’s work was in finance, starting after law school as a country stockbroker with Merrill Lynch and retiring last year from Smith Barney.

He came to us from Quakertown, Pa., where he was valedictorian of Quakertown High School. At Princeton he sang with the Glee Club, was an original member of the Footnotes, ate at Court Club, and was a debater at Whig-Clio. After specializing in 18th-century English history, he went to law school at Tulane.  

In Wayne, Pa., Bruce served a term as president of the Rotary Club and belonged to the Jaycees. He was a former board president of the Crefeld School in Philadelphia and a past board president of the Tulane Alumni Association. Bruce loved to travel, especially to his second home in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. He especially loved Ireland and had made plans to go there later this year.  

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Ruth (née March); two daughters, Leslie A. Bone and Liz; a son, J. Brent Hagan; his mother, S. Mildred Hagan; and nine grandchildren.
