Wladek came to the class and to the United States from Poland in 1949 and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He subsequently received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and taught physics at Sacramento State University for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

He was married to Carol Tucker and later to Catherine Vuletich, who survived him at the time of his death on Nov. 9, 2011.
