Granville Wyche Burgess ’69, left, a lyricist and playwright, and composer Paul Bogaev collaborated on a new musical, “Battlecry,” that will premiere June 26 at Riegel Auditorium in Gettysburg, and run through July 26. After touring Gettysburg two years ago with members of the Class of 1969 and American history professor emeritus James M. McPherson, Burgess decided to set that three-day battle to music and educate audiences about the pivotal Civil War event. A family-friendly musical that involves several love stories set against the backdrop of the battle, “Battlecry” was produced by Quill Entertainment, a nonprofit production company co-founded by Burgess.
