In Brief

Federal judge Denny Chin ’75 and biologist Eileen Fuchs *77 will receive the University’s highest ALUMNI AWARDS Feb. 26 at Alumni Day. Chin, the Woodrow Wilson Award honoree, has been a U.S. Court of Appeals judge since April 2010. As a U.S. District Court judge, he oversaw several newsworthy cases, including the trial and sentencing of Bernard Madoff and the proposed Google book-search settlement on which there has not yet been a ruling. Fuchs, the James Madison medalist, is a professor of molecular genetics and cell biology at Rockefeller University. She received the National Medal of Science in 2009 for her pioneering research in the biology of skin and skin disorders.

Frederick Fisher and Partners will serve as the design partner for the RENOVATION OF FIRESTONE LIBRARY, expected to begin next fall and to last about 10 years. Fisher will redesign public spaces on the library’s ground floor and third floor in collaboration with architecture firm Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott, which has been working on the project for more than a decade.
