In the Cause of Humanity: Creating Juried Democracies to New-Model the American Revolution
In the Cause of Humanity: Creating Juried Democracies to New-Model the American Revolution, Howard DeLong *60 offers a new understanding of what the American Revolution was in the 18th century. The book analyzes political and economic ideas that include courts of common reason, complex markets, and juried democracies. It also outlines a practical program to attain the transcendent goal of the American Revolution: a perpetually improving union of material and moral prosperity. DeLong retired in 1999 from teaching philosophy at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

1 Month AgoRemodeling American Democracy
Professor Delong was a mentor for me at Trinity College and well into my post-grad life. This book is a snapshot of his manuscript for remodeling American democracy and reawakening the revolutionary spirit. It is as vital now as the Manhattan Project was during World War II.
