Absence of History, Civics, and Geography in K-12 Education
Though of more liberal opinions myself, I was impressed by this conservative historian’s recognition of the depths to which the teaching of history (both American and world) has sunken over the past half century since I studied before entering Princeton. Reading the results of surveys that demonstrate how little Americans are taught about their own government, history, and world geography in high school prior to the privilege of a college education helps explain the unfortunate split in American politics whose crowning symbol is America’s recently outgoing accidental president. Unfortunately the world famous reputation of America’s universities does not remedy this sad state of affairs.
