Noting the emphasis on campus recognition of catering to those with physical handicaps, I would like to point out that one “invisible” handicap — hearing loss — should be recognized in campus accommodations for the disabled/handicapped.
As chairman of outreach for the Hearing Loss Association of America, it would be my honor to advise the powers-that-be of ways to find and assist students with hearing loss and show them how to deal with their handicap in a positive way. The first thing they should do is report their problem to the administration, which would get attention paid to this delicate subject.
