Sixty years ago, almost to the day (June 11, 1963), Alabama Gov. George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door at the University of Alabama to protest a Supreme Court decision he didn’t agree with. President Eisgruber’s response to the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action (June 29, 2023) is in the same vein. Both sincerely believe in two inherently discriminatory social arrangements (segregation, diversity) enshrined nowhere in the Constitution. Both will eventually bow to what has become the law of the land.
