As a 1980 classmate and friend since then, I had the first-hand opportunity to enjoy not only Richard’s singular wit and talent, but also his boundless empathy for his friends’ challenges and predicaments — especially those of the heart — and his limitless energy to make others laugh and to laugh along with them. His cleverness was exceeded by only his caring. We will all miss him dearly.
