Disturbing Revelation

In Deborah Yaffe’s article about the women of the Class of ’73, an alumna reveals that at least seven female members of that class were drugged and raped by the same man. Apparently there was a serial rapist in the Class of ’73, who committed crimes on the scale of Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein.

The article makes it clear that a lot of Princeton men did not want women to be at Princeton at all. I remember this period, as I was a female student on the campus from 1972 to 1976. There were a lot of disgruntled alumni in particular. But apparently one man took it upon himself to punish women for showing up in a space previously reserved for men.

While it may be too late to bring criminal charges or a civil lawsuit against this man, surely it would be appropriate to ban him from campus. I don’t want to go to Reunions if he might be there; I don’t want younger family members to be working at or attending Reunions if he might be there. He could still be a danger to women and girls. There must be consequences for criminal behavior, if only to send the message that this behavior will not be tolerated in the future.
