Great overview, Gregg. Got me thinking: Did the notion of colorblind arise from an assumption that racial equality in admissions/campus life would necessarily follow the pattern of religious equality? In the case of religion, dogmas make full compatibility impossible, so ignoring the preference of an individual tends to facilitate civil discussion. In the case of ethnicity or face, embracing the pride of a minority means welcoming a new viewpoint that might end up being compatible with or instructive to the mainstream.
