I enjoyed reading the article about Yi Liao's and Daniel Pedraza's adventures in their Winnebago. However, I was struck by the description of Liao as "petite, with small eyes and a big personality." Describing Liao as having small eyes was not evocative or helpful to the reader -- the author could have come up with dozens of better descriptors such as her bright, dark eyes, her wide smile or her glowing complexion. I don't consider myself easily offended, but as an Asian-American, I found the author's wording racially insensitive and off-putting.
[Editor's note: The wording of the story online has been revised to eliminate that description.]
