Mild but Memorable Harassment

My wife Elisabeth Pearson Waugaman, Ph.D. (*70) also arrived on campus in the fall of 1969, but as a graduate student in the Department of Romance Languages. The only time I saw her being harassed was by a grumpy old man as we were waiting for the elevator in Firestone Library. When he saw her impatiently push the down button a second time, he said with a scowl, “It’s amazing the elevator buttons still work at all, with women here!”

Mild, I know, but your excellent article brought that memory to mind.
