Populism is a form of democracy which is potentially totalitarian and repressive. There is much in democracy which is less than admirable; democrats rarely admit this. We have been brainwashed into thinking democracy is always good and desirable and other -"cracies" are bad and undesirable. But ever since the history of ancient Athens we should have been more discerning.
