I can easily understand Paul Warren's hesitation about applying for a deanship at a Catholic university. Some of them are relatively liberal about many things, others are not. There are always limits to what is admissible and what is not, but that is also true of many entirely secular schools and many other religious institution with nothing Catholic about them. In fact, in my opinion the rigidities of Catholicism are often less than those of so-called evangelical institutions. At least Catholic authorities respect real biblical scholarship while non-Catholic religious institutions often do not accept that which goes against their favorite dogmas.
