Backtracking on Fossil Fuel Divestment

Regarding “Princeton Reverses Course on Fossil Fuel Divestment” in the July/August issue: Seriously, Princeton and Princo? Is Princeton committed to being “in the service of humanity” or not? According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), clean energy investments now outpace fossil fuel investments, drawing roughly $2 trillion annually compared to $1 trillion for fossil fuels. Over time, renewable power portfolios are generating higher total financial returns and lower price swings than fossil fuel portfolios in many global markets. In their World Energy Outlook, the IEA named solar power the cheapest electricity in human history. So why is Princeton backtracking on its leadership on divesting in fossil fuel? There is no excuse or reasonable rationale for it. Step up and be the leader you claim to be.
