Disservice to Humanity

This news is incredibly disappointing to hear. As an academic institution, a large part of Princeton’s role is to imagine and actively create a brighter future for all people. Divestment is an essential part of doing so. All of us are already seeing and experiencing firsthand the impacts of climate change, from increasingly violent winter storms to the sweltering heat waves many of us have felt this summer. Without radical action to curb the effects of climate change, we have no meaningful future to dream about and build toward.

Instead of being a leader, Princeton is rolling back on its divestment promises and is reinvesting in the destruction of people and the planet. This goes directly against the interests of Princeton’s motto “in the service of humanity.” These moments make me embarrassed to be an alumna of an institution that would sell out for the greed of growing its already absurdly large endowment. Princeton needs to do better.
